Catchin' Anything? Humidity persists with some bite

The hot, humid dog days of summer keep some anglers at bay, but it's a good time to go fishing. Fish are cold blooded and the heat speeds up their metabolism, so they have to eat more to survive because they metabolize their food more quickly than when it's cooler.

Officials looking for alligator in Portsmouth pond

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- An enforcement officer from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is searching Sisson Pond with local officials after a resident reported seeing a fair-sized alligator at the pond.

DEM spokeswoman Gail Mastrati said a resident took a picture of the alligator on the banks of the pond. An officer went to the pond at midday to work with animal control to try to find the animal, she said.

Mastrati said the officer saw the alligator while they were out there but it got away. She said they reported that the animal is not as large as it seemed in the picture.

State warns of health hazard in East Providence river, ponds

A naturally occurring poison on Tuesday led the state Departments of Environmental Management and Health to warn against recreational activities in, or drinking water or eating fish from several bodies of water in East Providence.

The poison, or toxin, resulted from a recent algae bloom in the Ten Mile River, Central Pond, Turner Reservoir and Omega Pond. The Ten Mile River originates in Massachusetts and forms the boundary between Massachusetts and Rhode Island along the northern half of East Providence and Seekonk; the other bodies of water are fully in East Providence.

Layout

Since this is a one-column layout, the .content is not floated.

Logo Replacement

An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)
